GLENN R. PLUMMER
Bishop Glenn Plummer has been integral to the success and furtherance of Christian Television in America. He created three national television networks (Christian Television Network, The NRB Network, and The Impact Television Network ). He also built five broadcast television stations between Detroit, New Orleans, and Baton Rouge Louisiana. Currently he is President & CEO of WLPC-TV28 Detroit which can be seen 24 hours/day over-the air and on Comcast channel 397 in the Detroit market.
He cohosted a nationally syndicated TV show entitled, “The Lesson” with his wife, Dr. Ruth Pauline Plummer. This husband and wife team has taught the international Sunday School lesson on television each week for years and claim to have “the largest Sunday School class in America”.
He is the only African American to have served as the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Religious Broadcasters (NRB) where he led and was the chief spokesperson for the entire Christian media industry. During his tenure he testified as an expert witness before Congress on behalf of religious television in America and was also responsible for creating the NRB Television Network currently seen on DirecTV channel 268 nationwide.
Dr. Plummer was Licensed in ministry in 1979. He was installed as senior pastor of Ambassadors for Christ Church in 1999, and in 2014 he founded his second church, The Midtown Church.
On April 9, 2019 at COGIC headquarters in Memphis, Tennessee by unanimous consent, the General Assembly of the Church of God in Christ (COGIC) ratified the historic decision of Presiding Bishop Charles Blake and the General Board to appoint Dr. Glenn Plummer as Bishop of Israel. This historic decisive action of COGIC Leadership places Dr. Plummer as the first Bishop of Israel in the 113 year history of COGIC and the first Bishop of Israel for any Christian denomination.
He was consecrated to the sacred office of Bishop of Israel on Sunday evening November 10, 2019 before an exuberant audience of thousands in the America’s Center in St. Louis, Missouri.
Bishop Plummer has been a national and international leader in the pro-Israel community for more than two decades, traveling to the Holy Land more than twenty-five times and hosting trips to Israel for thousands of believers. In 2006 he founded FIBA, the Fellowship of Israel and Black America, an organization dedicated to building a bridge between ISRAEL & Black America. The sister organization in Israel is FIEBA (Fellowship of Israelis, Ethiopians, & Black Americans). He is a widely sought after speaker and teacher in both the Christian and Jewish community.
His undergraduate studies were at Northern Michigan University in Marquette Michigan & Brooklyn College in New York City. He currently holds a Doctor of Divinity (D.D.) degree from Destiny Christian University in Winter Haven Florida and was recently awarded an honorary PH.D in Religious Leadership from ULS at the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Center in Atlanta Ga November 14, 2019.
Dr. Plummer is also the recipient of The Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award from U.S. President Barak Obama.
He is happily married to author, national recording artist, and television personality, Dr.Ruth Pauline Plummer. They currently reside in Jerusalem, ISRAEL and serve together as a marvelous couple in ministry & business, and are parents to a wonderful blended family which includes eight adult children and five beautiful grandchildren.
